Honestly Foodie | @ Daylesford

Daylesford Organic Farm, Kingham, Gloucestershire

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word:  Heavenly
Food:   Organic, succulent and seasonal. Inspired flavour combinations create a lasting impression
Service:  Lacking a little finesse in their communication
Presentation:  Stunning- food, location, interiors, exteriors
Ambience:  Just perfect; quiet enough for a romantic meal, busy enough to not be over heard whispering sweet nothings!
Location:   We visited the farm and HQ in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds
Value for money: £50 a head for a three course meal with a few glasses of booze
Worth a visit?: Yes. Go now, flee the city and lap up the beautiful English countryside and the fantastic food on offer

This place is beautiful, I mean really stunning.  And the food…just delicious.  And organic.  And I had possibly the best dish I’ve tasted since our visit to La Chassagnette in the South of France in 2010.  BIG call!  The combination of the baked fig starter, company ethos, beautiful farm and the location made for one winning combination!

Need I say more?

I will.

Honestly Foodie | Falafel burger @ Fuel

Fuel, Falmouth, Cornwall

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word: Homely
Food:  A good selection of traditional British fare – soups, sandwiches, burgers, salads, sharing platters and ‘comfort foods’ classics.   Where possible, ingredients and produce are Cornish sourced
Service:  Friendly, warm, welcoming with a smile and some good chat
Presentation:   Nice homely feel to the interiors with lots of natural light
Ambience:  Comfortable, homely and grounded
Location:  Street front on Falmouth’s high street
Value for money:   Choose any dish from their lunch selection for £4.95, or from the menu; just under £10 for a salad, burger or main, £6-£8 for a sandwich, and around £2 for a tea or coffee
Worth a visit?:  If you’re looking for that homely feel to your feed with great service and local produce then look no further

Fuel caught my eye as I walked through the main street of Falmouth whilst down in deepest darkest Cornwall, visiting my mother.

T.E.D. Restaurant, Kings Cross, London

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word: Delicious
Food:  Really tasty dishes with a focus on seasonal, local and ethically sourced produce. Deservedly in Opentable’s top 100 restaurants in the UK for 2014
Service:  Effective although a little bit stretched at time
Presentation:  Nice simple décor, great colour palette, with pretty things to catch your eye. Simple unfussy food styling
Ambience:  When it’s busy, it’s really buzzy…great for a boozy supper with friends, not so for a romantic meal for two where you struggle to hear each other talk
Location:  A 3 minute walk from Kings Cross station.  The restaurant helping to lift the reputation of Caledonian Road, the southern end at least!
Value for money: Not too bad at just under £40 a head for two courses of really delicious food and a glass of wine. However, I’m still miffed at paying £14 for an entrée-sized Winter Salad, which has left an unpleasant taste in my mind
Worth a visit?:  Yes, for the delicious local and ethically sourced food and booze, just chose wisely!

TED Restaurant at the King’s Cross end of Caledonian Road is a great new-ish offering in the centre of town. Caledonian Road doesn’t have the greatest of reputations food-wise, however, It’s just a stones throw from King’s Cross station and on the better end of the road where cute little café’s have been popping up in recent years; Drink, Shop, Do and Pattern Cafe.
