Flora & Fauna, Northbridge, Perth

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word:  Heavenly
Food:  Bowls of nourishing sunshine.  Beautifully presented and seriously tasty
Service:  This isn’t fast food!  No complaints – they were friendly, efficient and we all got what we ordered
Presentation:  Pretty and upcycled
Ambience:  Popular and laid back little café
Location:  Hidden down a side street in Northbridge, a short walk from the centre of Perth and worth the drive from anywhere in WA!
Value for money: $50 for two drinks and two breakfasts, which at the time of writing was around £25. So in line with London prices, if not a little bit more, as is the way in WA
Worth a visit?:   Absolutely, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, in fact it would probably be the first place I’d go to next time I’m in Perth!

Ah, Flora & Fauna…what can I say…other than, you’re beautiful and I love you.

You might might think that statement is a little over the top for a café (ok, I may have been high on post-yoga endorphins), but just look at the pictures…

Welcome to Flora & Fauna

Baked Phyllo Rolls

Gentle Gourmet, Bastille, Paris

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word: Génial!
Food:  Beautifully presented gourmet-style vegan, veggie and raw dishes, full of flavour and where possible organic ingredients
Service:  Attentive, friendly and great English
Presentation:  The restaurant itself isn’t going to win any style awards, the food on the other hand looks fantastic
Ambience:  The Saturday lunch time vibe was pretty laid back
Location:   A short walk from Bastille metro stop in the centre of Paris
Value for money:  This is beautiful food, well worth the €30 a head for a two course meal without booze
Worth a visit?:  When in Paris and seeking good vegetarian and vegan food, this has to be on your must-eat list

Gentle Gourmet came to my attention whilst searching for vegan restaurants for our weekend break in Paris, Fat Gay VeganVegan Miam and Hey Rita all mention this great little find.

Located just down from Bastille Metro, Gentle Gourmet is somewhere you go for the food and the food alone; the restaurant decor and the views I found rather uninspiring, especially on a grey and cold January day.  And people definitely do go for the food so I’d recommend phoning in advance to book yourself a table at Gentle Gourmet as it gets busy at the weekend, especially for Sunday brunch.

Glo, Laugavegur, Reykjavik, Iceland

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word:  Glowing
Food:  Just a joy to find somewhere without puffin or whale on the menu in Iceland…just kidding (kind of), seriously delicious healthy food here
Service:  Short but sweet, it’s a canteen-style set up, so there isn’t much interaction, however, what you do have is friendly and efficient!
Presentation:  Food on a plate in a warm and relaxed cafe away from the arctic winds
Ambiance:  Bright, sleek, warm, and busy – but never too loud or rawkus
Location:  Several in town: one just off the main strip in central Reykjavik, with the entrance hidden down a side street, another across from the Hilton and a third by the art museum
Value for money:  Definitely, one of the cheapest and nicest in my opinion in the whole of Iceland!
Worth a visit?:  Definitely, It’s hard to find tasty healthy food in Reykjavik, Glo serves this up by the plateful!

This one is an oldy dating back to January 2014, but definitely a goodie…in fact, it’s a must-do when in Iceland and i’m not why I haven’t posted this earlier.  I think we were travelling so much at the time I never got around to singing the praises of Glo…and I now I realise why: no photos!  I forgot to take my camera battery, not just to the restaurant, but to Iceland!
