Flora & Fauna, Northbridge, Perth

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word:  Heavenly
Food:  Bowls of nourishing sunshine.  Beautifully presented and seriously tasty
Service:  This isn’t fast food!  No complaints – they were friendly, efficient and we all got what we ordered
Presentation:  Pretty and upcycled
Ambience:  Popular and laid back little café
Location:  Hidden down a side street in Northbridge, a short walk from the centre of Perth and worth the drive from anywhere in WA!
Value for money: $50 for two drinks and two breakfasts, which at the time of writing was around £25. So in line with London prices, if not a little bit more, as is the way in WA
Worth a visit?:   Absolutely, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, in fact it would probably be the first place I’d go to next time I’m in Perth!

Ah, Flora & Fauna…what can I say…other than, you’re beautiful and I love you.

You might might think that statement is a little over the top for a café (ok, I may have been high on post-yoga endorphins), but just look at the pictures…

Poonie’s Kitchen, Galle Fort, Sri Lanka

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word:  Refreshing
Food: Well executed Western style cafe dishes infused with the best of Sri Lanka’s fresh produce
Service: Laid back and effective
Presentation:  Beautiful little haven hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Galle
Ambience:  Chilled and peaceful
Location:  Tucked behind a store in one of Galle’s traditional Dutch-style courtyard houses
Value for money:  About 4,000Rps (about £20) for two juices, two mains and a slice of cake.  Nothing’s cheap in Sri Lanka anymore.
Worth a visit?:  Another highly recommended foodie find, definitely worth hunting out when you’re looking for a healthy alternative to the delicious local dishes

Poonie’s Kitchen in Galle Fort came highly recommended to me by both Verity at Ebb and Flow Jungalows and Tim at Unakanda.  After a disappointing first visit (after finally finding the place, we discovered it doesn’t open on Sundays!), we finally managed to grab ourselves a table, soak up the relaxed atmosphere and eat from the menu.  Happy days!

Sable D’or, Crouch End, London

HONESTLY’S VERDICT
In a word:  Reliable
Food:  Beautiful salads, pastries and good breakfasts
Service:  Warm welcome but table service is a bit hit and miss
Presentation:  Lovely window and deli counter display. Salvage-chic interiors!
Ambience:  Pretty chilled, verging on quiet for an early breakfast
Location:  Crouch End High Street, North London
Value for money:  A little further from central London = reasonable price tag
Worth a visit?:  The salads and English Breakfast are worth the trip ‘up north’

We were drawn to Sable D’or by the window display of freshly baked pastries and rather gorgeous looking salads, and it became one of our go-to places for breakfast when we wanted to get out of the big smoke and head north…on the 91 bus!
